Buying a used motorcycle is one of the most affordable ways to get on the road, but it comes with risks if you don't know what to look for. A little bit of care before you buy can save you from expensive repairs and headaches later.
1. Check the engine and chassis numbers. Make sure the engine and chassis numbers on the bike match exactly with what's written in the registration book. A mismatch can mean the bike has been in an accident, had parts swapped, or worse — that the registration is not genuine.
2. Inspect for accident damage. Look closely at the frame, fuel tank, and body panels for signs of dents, uneven paint, or welding marks. A bike that has been in a major accident may have hidden structural issues even after cosmetic repair.
3. Check the engine condition. Start the bike cold if possible. Listen for unusual noises, check for excessive smoke from the exhaust, and make sure the engine doesn't take too long to start. Ask about oil change history.
4. Verify all documents are complete. Make sure the registration book, CNIC of the current owner, and any transfer documents are all in order before you commit to the purchase. Missing paperwork can cause major problems down the line.
5. Take it for a test ride. Check the brakes, gear shifting, suspension, and overall handling. A bike that looks great standing still can still have issues that only show up while riding.
If you'd rather skip the guesswork entirely, Jahangir Motors verifies used bikes listed through our Sell Your Bike marketplace, and our team is always happy to help you inspect a bike before you buy. Visit our office or reach out on WhatsApp if you'd like our help.
